The art of expressing oneself via words, combined with the skill of writing is creative writing. Just about any and every set of words that are made with the intention of being seen by others will most likely have some sort of creative thought applied to them. That thought process includes, the language used to say things, the ideas the author wishes to express, the actual grammar and syntax used to write the words, and the amount of words used.

There are those that use words as art itself and therefore do not necessarily mean anything with the syntax they use, but rather are painting some sort of picture with letters or numbers or symbols. This art is sometimes abstract or illusion based, with words having little or no meaning themselves. Yet, it is creative if it expresses creativity and writing if it contains letters or words.
