Inspiring Thoughts On Some Dilemmas With Being A Digital Nomad Mom
My First Thought — What about My Child’s Education?
This is a major consideration and people look at it in very different ways. As my children are very young and I will go out of my way to ensure that they learn all about the alphabet, our numbers, colours and other important basics, I realise that I don’t need to have a formal education to be able to teach them all about these things.
When they get older I will avoid travelling to some of those exotic locales for lengthy periods and would be perfectly happy to find a good school for them in France, Italy or anywhere else in mainland Europe where I will locate for that time.
It doesn’t matter where you are going, you will normally come across some great English schools and it’s not necessary anymore to be truly concerned about your kids’ education. Even home schooling can get you by for a few months. Lesson plans can be sent via the internet these days, you just need to be willing to make the effort and explore the possibilities.
My 17-year-old brother is a typical teenager and even though I love him very much, he is constantly engaged in teenager style activities, such as hanging out with his mates, getting into trouble, going to parties, or playing computer games or interacting on Facebook. Think about it for a moment — what does living in the Western world really mean to these kids today as isn’t it increasingly boring and wouldn’t you like to give your kids a new perspective, with eye-opening experiences and insight into different cultures and a whole lot of other activities, in addition to all that regular teenage stuff? I think that’s a bonus, don’t you?
My Second Thought — am I Being Too Cautious?
Life is a gift and as far as we have any scientific proof, we only have one of them. Never regret the way that you you live your life, or you will be very unhappy when it comes close to the end.
You have to make sure that you don’t second guess yourself and keep wondering “what if,” as if everything doesn’t work out as you had planned, at least you can look back at that time and say “well, at least I tried.”
Caution is all very well, but you don’t need to enclose your children in cotton wool because you are too concerned about the unknown and those “if’s and but’s” — if you choose the easy way out with the safe option, you will never know what you might have missed, if only you had taken that “giant leap” into the unknown.
Being a digital nomad is not always easy, but it’s a lot of fun, it’s different, it’s risky and exciting and it’s the life I chose for myself. Being a digital nomad parent brings new challenges, but like I say – you only have one life, and for me, being able to see the world, and share that experience with my children is one of the best parts of it. So whether you’re considering how to be a virtual assistant now, or you’re thinking about how to be a virtual assistant in future, or even if you’ve already thoroughly evaluated how to be a virtual assistant, drop by for a visit and see for yourself what other like-minded people have to say within the extraordinary field of Virtual Assistance!
My honest advice to you if you are thinking about becoming a digital nomad, whether you have no children, are pregnant or have a family already, is not to think about it too hard, just to go ahead and jump in.
