Snowdonia in North Wales has a long and scenic coast. The beaches here have a little for everyone. Whether you are looking for serenity and quiet, a traditional bucket and spade vacation or you are a water sports devotee there is something for you.
Black Rock Sands is situated two miles from the attractive town of Porthmadog. It is a popular and wide sandy beach that is backed by sand dunes. The dunes are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and there is easy parking, a café and toilets.

The best time for shells is in the first half of the year after they have been washed up by the winter storms. Shell Island is also well known for its wild flowers.
The long-established seaside resort of Barmouth is located about eight miles from Dolgellau. There is a two mile stretch of sand which is popular with families with kids and watersports enthusiasts alike. Surfers can time and again be seen depending on the swells and time of year.
The town of Criccieth is to be found on the Lleyn Peninsular. The town boasts two beaches, one of which is pebbly. The other is a mixture of pebbles and sand. Porpoises and seals have been spotted in the waters off the coast here.
Fairbourne beach has beautiful views along the coastline and is backed by natural pebble banks. It is popular with windsurfers, canoeists and people sailing. Kite surfers can often be seen here too. The beach is also perfect for walking or playing beach sports.
Abersoch on the Lleyn Peninsular also has some fantastic beaches. The main beach is the most popular with tourists. International sailing events are held here and offer an exciting display for all. A significant number of yachts are moored in the bay during the warmer months resulting in a very attractive picture from the beach.
