Why Teaching is a Great Career Choice

Teaching can be very rewarding, but it’s most certainly not suited to everyone out there. In fact, a lot of new teachers have a change of heart and change their career within the first 5 years of teaching which is why there is a bit of a shortage in the education system at the moment.

But, on the other side of the coin, there are plenty of advantages to becoming a teacher. Not least the fact that you’re shaping the future generation is obviously a massive boost, not to mention the extended holidays that come with the job!!

Here are a few of the major benefits to being a teacher:-

Contributing to the Successes of Others

As a classroom teacher you have the power to influence. Students are highly manipulated by your teachings. One of the most commonly cited reasons for becoming a teacher is due to inspiration from other teachers that they’ve had in their lifetime. It just goes to show the profound effect that teaching can have the lives of the youth.

Here’s a pretty sad fact – many teachers will see their students more than their parents will. Go figure!

Fun Times…

If there’s one word you can use to describe being a teacher, it isn’t boring. Students of all are ages have a diverse range of personalities and are sure to keep you entertained.

Of course, it won’t all be roses and plain sailing – there will be lessons where you’ll struggle to keep your calm, but for many teachers this is what makes the role exciting – the challenge of adapting from one class to the next and doing the best job you possibly can as a teacher.

Conducive to Family Life

Here’s a big one. Those of you who have families will be able to easily relate to this! The school calendar is laid out in such a way that you’ll be able to have the same days off as your kids at a valuable time in their lives.

This will be great for you because you get to see your kids more often, but the main benefits are for your children who will get the care and attention that they deserve.

Not Tied to your Office All Day

Here’s another major benefit for a lot of people who are looking to become teachers. Your office is your classroom, and your classroom is an every changing environment. No two days are ever the same and even though you’ll most certainly have your fair share of marking to do, you’ll also be able to interact with your pupils and socialise on a level that isn’t possible in a normal 9-5 office environment.

Favourable Working Hours
Whilst it can be argued that you don’t leave your job at the school gates (there is always some form of marking that needs to be done in your own time) the hours during which you have to be at school or college is usually favourable. Most schools start at 9 and finish around 4pm, which in the grand scheme of things is a pretty short day.

Teacher Qualification is a Speedy Process
There are a huge number of teaching programs similar to the alternative teacher certification Texas program that will have you up and running, training to be a teacher in no time at all. The programs generally take a year or less to complete, include on the job training, and don’t require you to pay back any loans you require to train as a teacher until you are qualified and earning as a full time teacher.
